Transition Instructions
Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
Day 7 | 0% | 100% |

If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.
Groundbreaking Nutrition for Digestive Health
Hill's Gastrointestinal Biome cat food was formulated using a different approach to digestive care. These recipes help your cat's stomach break down food more efficiently using a specific blend of active fibers. This blend, ActivBiome+, can help promote healthier stool and improve regularity. Other beneficial ingredients may help promote a healthy urinary system, too—they call it S+OX Shield.

The results can be seen in Hill's Prescription Diet therapeutic pet foods.
Meeting the Highest Standards
Providing a food that delivers exactly what it says it does is Hill's number one priority. In fact, they perform over five million safety and quality checks every year. They've established relationships with trusted suppliers and will only accept ingredients that meet stringent standards.
The Taste Factor
You might know that Hill's Prescription Diet is good for your pet, but she's only concerned with the taste. Even though they place a heavy emphasis on nutrition, Hill's hasn't forgotten about palatability. Savory ingredients are combined to produce foods with enticing aromas, textures, and shapes that your pet can't resist.

Saved our litter box from smellies
By CedarandtheSage on Nov 7, 2021
Mommy changed our food awhile back to this because Sage was having stomach issues which he passed onto me. Mine weren't as bad but still we damaged our litter box with our smelly runny poops. So she talked to our person that looks at us and says what's wrong and this was suggested. After we started eating this we both got better and mommy has been giving it to us ever since. She says the only problem she has with it is how much she has to pay for it. We don't understand pay but we do understand when our bellies are happy. And this makes our bellies very happy :) ~Cedar

A win for my fur family!
By BreC on Oct 8, 2021
I was worried when the vet recommend RX food that only comes in chicken flavor, my cat has a history of refusing to eat anything chicken and then stealing food from my other cat (which is also RX and I can't have him doing that). Fortunately, this is a big hit with him so far! This is our first bag so I can't be too sure that it's working, but it's vet recommend and love by my cat so it's a win for us!

A Solid Second Choice
By Ella on Aug 24, 2021
If like me, you have one cat who needs fiber food, a smaller bag is better. While my cat loves Royal Canin~ At 1/2C @ day, 8 lbs doesn't stay fresh long. So I tried the Science Diet only bc it has a 4lb option. She loves it. Now here's the comparison on the "end result" vs Royal Canin. Blended the 2 when we switched. A bit of an overlap so waited to see, if it worked, bc her comfort is key. Royal Canin , every day or 2, has that crazy long snake pooh. Science Diet is every 2-3 days & goes from long to normal. Interestingly, Royal Canin vs Science Diet is more hydrated. Royal is soft where Science is more pellet-like, whether long or short. My newly acquired Cat Pooh Investigator skills learned when she's blocked, she gets sick. Since being on fiber food she hasn't gotten sick once. I do prefer Science Diet's Velcro seal vs Royal's Ziploc seal. However, if Royal came in smaller bag, it would be the 1st Choice. Very happy with option 2 & more importantly so is she. AMAZING! Immediately stopped hairballs and loose stool!!
By Nikki on Aug 23, 2021
Since we adopted our cat in December 2019 she has had nearly constant daily coughing/hacking and at least 3 actual hairballs a week, and she's also always had softer/looser poop. We've tried probably 6 different foods (Orijen, hairball formula, hydrolyzed protein, etc) in the time we've had her with no real change in her hairball or poop issues. After an infected anal gland our vet recommended we try this gastrointestinal biome food and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! She loves this food (but does not like the wet version). She immediately stopped having hairballs and has not had a single hairball in the month that we've had her on this food. Her poop also firmed up within days and looks totally "normal Since we adopted our cat in December 2019 she has had nearly constant daily coughing/hacking and at least 3 actual hairballs a week, and she's also always had softer/looser poop. Worth the price
By Simonsmom on Sep 20, 2021
My boy has had chronic diarrhea for over a year with suspected IBD. We tried several foods and probiotics to no avail. A new vet finally prescribed this for us and within days his stool was back to almost completely normal. This is seriously a miracle product. I can't recommend it enough. It's expensive but we'll worth the price in my opinion. (Pic bc he's just too cute)

Helps with stomach issues
By Alex on Sep 7, 2021
Our cat has been having very loose stools with blood for 2+ months after rounds of medicine from our vet. Finally they recommended this food. It has firmed up his stools (not completely yet) and he no longer has blood. We hope after he finishes his round of steroids and this bag that we can go back to regular food. But, if not, he seems to like the dry version of this food. He wouldn't eat the wet.

stopped chronic intermittent diarrhea
By great on Aug 27, 2021
My cat is FIV+ and has had intermittent diarrhea for 2 years (ever since i've had him). I've tried every royal canin and hills gastrointestinal food. I thought that my poor boy was doomed and that it was just his FIV+ not being able to handle the food. As soon as i switched to the Gastrointestinal Biome food he never had diarrhea EVER AGAIN. when he was having it every day for years, tried all different types of meds, metronidazole, tylan powder, probiotics. this food is what works for him. at first, he hated the taste of it and wouldn't eat it until he had no choice. now he readily eats it every day. it's been about a month since i switched his food with no diarrhea. Helped an upset kitty gut
By CatsCauseTypos on Sep 10, 2021 top500Contributor
Our senior kitty was struggling with gut issues, and other solutions in the past stopped helping. His vet suggested this food, and I was skeptical our picky kitty would even try to eat it! Well, it's tasty enough to tempt our picky eater and has helped resolve the GI upset! I'm so glad we tried it!
